Southern Mini Days 2010

The theme of this year's Southern Mini Days was 'the circus'. Well on the weekend of the 6th 7th and 8th of August the circus really did come to town at Bewl Water, as well as some of the Minifinity old guard, with myself (Croker), Zippy, Roxy, Jedi_stud, Bibble, 8ball, Marshall and mini247 all flying the MF the flag at this years Southern Mini Days.

With Bewel water so close to Dover we were pleased to see a good number of our foreign cousins join the party, noticably the Belgium and Dutch contingency (those boys and girls can really put on a club stand!)

People have been asking if the event has suffered from it’s move from Hop Farm two years ago, well maybe, maybe not. Bewl Water is a very pretty place and some of the issues experienced last year (such as toilets and showers) have been improved with some minor improvements still to be made.

But the main reason this event is penciled into our diary every year is that we always have such a great time.

This year, our SMD event started rather stressfully, with with Roxy and myself getting stuck in traffic at Dartford for 4 hours when they decided to shut the Bridge! Thankfully Jinx’s temperature gauge never went past the big N and we made it to Bewl in one piece. All the more reason to need a cool beer ! :)

Friday night started with the obligatory ‘piss down’ that seems to follow us to most shows. But we cared not one jot as we all huddled for warmth under our gazebo and enjoyed a couple of beers and a Krispy Kreme doughnut or two.

It was great to catch up with old friends and remind us of why we really come to these events.

Saturday morning the sun was shining and the festivities could really begin.

Saturday consisted of a wonder around the trade stands in search of a bargain and a trip down to ACDodds ‘Prod and Grumble’ tent for some expert tinkering. At 2 O’clock we all made our way to the arena for the loudest exhaust competition where Jedi_Stud achieved an impressive 121.5db in his supercharged MPi Cooper. Unfortunately he was pipped to the post by a Bini (by .5 of a decibel)! A stewards enquiry is needed I think!

Highlight of the weekend though must have been the glowshow. This year MFs entry was 8ball’s dog, (Blade), who like his owner in 2007, was jumped on, wrapped in glow sticks and pushed into the arena as the official MF entry (if anyone asked we were entering a Rover!). Much to our surprise Blade was awarded a special award (best in glow?) and we collected his prize on Sunday morning in front of an screaming and adoring crowd (ok ok, but they clapped and smiled :) ).

All in all a marvelous time was had by all, which left us quite literally jumping for joy.

See you all soon !
