Contact for ECU Checking

Postby Missdgear on Fri 5th Mar 2010, 04:27pm

Guys

Just thought I would share a contact I found today. ATP Electronics in Cannock will test ECU's for any problems and depending on the model can then rebuild it.

Mine which is a 95 SPI which is model MNE101170 is £30+vat to test and £150+vat to rebuild. This includes a 24 hour courier charge as anything they do should only take 24 hours which is handy when the car as mine is, is your daily drive. Thought this would be cheaper than sourcing another ECU which would then need mapping to the alarm etc.

Speak to a guy called Steve Holmes, he is really helpful and can be contacted on 01543 427900

ATP Electronics
Victoria Street
Hednesford
Cannock
WS12 1BU

Will give feedback once I've sent mine to him.

Becks :D

The alarm is controlled separately on the spi, not via ecu.
Checking the ecu wont necessarily help you, if sensors are atfault the codes need resetting and then monitoring again once the ecu is plugged in

just clearing the codes will result in more errorcodes that you cant check once plugged back into the car if wiring or a sensor is playing up

Hiya Zip

They don't just check codes, they hook it up to a car simulation and run it, let it do what it does on the car and record the data. They then verify the data your ECU gives out with one they know is true and compare.

Unfortunatley mine has passed, the ECU is fine so we are now going to do a compression test and see what that throws up :(

I was recommended this guy by Mini Mail who race minis as this guys checks all their ECU's.

Hiya
yeah thats what i figured. The spi ecus are generally very reliable.
Have you had someone hook up a code reader to the car? It may be a sensor or the wiring / connection.

Going to ask Steve if he can read the codes if not then not sure where near by can do that. Rich at Minispares in Harrogate has one but has leant it to Miniworld so thats not accessible. Not sure of anywhere near Derby/Notts/Leicester that can read them .....

One option, and i know its far, is to contact ML motorsport.

They have a chap who checks the codes and then uses various tests to check connections, sensors and wiring. Its not the cheapest but then you're guaranteed to drive the car away fixed.

The black soot smacks of overfuelling.
